CHRISTMAS SONGS? Well, yes…
Perhaps we don’t need another generic, big budget Christmas concert with the same glossy arrangements for the 101st time… Instead we welcome you to something completely different. The working title for the The Second Hand Orchestra’s last album was ”chewing the home-cooked christmas candy” with idea to bring back the love the group once had for those well known songs. They recorded the albumquickly, with free minds and some loose jams. Some of the songs they could not remember fully, so they focused on specific parts and other songs they knew (too well) and had to play around with them a little to make them come alive.
The Second Hand Orchestra (with a loose line up of musicians coming and going) is led by Karl Jonas Winqvist, producer and founder of the label Sing a Song Fighter (James Yorkston, the Senegalese acts Wau Wau Collectif, Assiko Golden Band De Grand Yoff, Vumbi Dekula’s “Congo Guitar” and many more).
The Second Hand Orchestra has previously released three instrumental albums described as a “lo-fi, homegrown mix of unreleased demos from Penguin Café Orchestra, Maher Shalal Hash Baz and Moondog”.
The orchestra have recently made the soundtrack for the award winning documentary “Det krokiga och det raka (crooked lines of beauty)” which was aired on Swedish national Tv and is now making the film festivals rounds. In 2024 The Second Hand Orchestra (who also feature Lina Langendorf from Langendorf United on horns) will for the 3rd time act as the backing band on the new James Yorkston album (out on Domino) which also features Nina Persson (The Cardigans).
Now the band has cooked up an amazing, playful Christmas album last year and is now releasing their second Christmas related album (”Slow, this is Christmas”).
And this is the first time they perform their Christmas albums live.
