Ultramarina is the musical collaboration between Sweden’s Lina Nyberg and Brazilian Rafael Macedo. Together they create music that weaves together musicians and musical impulses from both sides of the Atlantic, with the sea as their starting point. In their hands, the ocean becomes both a source of inspiration and a metaphor for the connections between worlds, cultures and myths.
Jazz vocalist and composer Lina Nyberg has, since her debut alongside Esbjörn Svensson in 1993, built one of Swedish jazz’s most decorated and freely exploratory catalogues. Over 20 albums, a Swedish Grammy, the Lars Gullin Prize and the Royal Academy of Music’s major jazz award.
Singer and guitarist Rafael Macedo from Minas Gerais in southeastern Brazil has spent two decades moving through jazz, theatre, circus and film. He has received the BDMG Instrumental prize twice, the Respirarte prize once, and been praised by one of Brazil’s truly great and singular musical minds, Hermeto Pascoal.
