Release concert Le Grand Michel

Vivian Buczek is one of Sweden’s foremost jazz singers. The dynamic and colorful singer celebrated in Sweden who abroad owns the stage and captivates the audience with her genuine colorful presence. She masters the jazz idiom with a humble self-assuredness no matter what she takes on and proudly carries on the torch of the female jazz vocal. Vivian began her musical journey 20 years ago and has since toured the world and established a singing career with a string of albums from 2000 to 2024

Vivian’s upcoming album release “Le Grand Michel” is a tribute to one of her favorite composers, the French composer, pianist and conductor Michel Legrand. Vivian interprets a selection of her favorite compositions by Legrand in romantic, bold and dynamic arrangements written by Vivian’s musical partner the pianist and arranger Martin Sjöstedt. Together they are backed by the Danish/Swedish rhythm section consisting of the Danish bassist Jesper Bodilsen and the Hungarian drummer Zoltan Csörsz who grew up in Malmö and collaborated with Vivian since the start of her career. (Drummer Zoltan Csärsz has also had the pleasure of collaborating with composer Michel Legrand.)

The quartet is guested on the album and concert by the Danish harmonica virtuoso Mathias Heise and one of Sweden’s leading and colorful trumpeters Peter Asplund.

“I have always been fond of Michel Legrand and have long dreamed of doing a project where I get to interpret his music in my own way. His music and lyrics written by Alan & Marilyn Bergman represent what I mainly want to convey to my audience; romance, dynamism, melancholy but also blues and swing.”

The group interprets some of the French composer’s most famous gems, including Windmills of Your Mind and “I Will Wait For You” which comes from one of Legrand’s most famous films in 1963 “The Umbrellas of Cherbourgh”.
