Gerald Clayton Trio

Gerald Clayton is one of contemporary jazz’s most sought-after pianists. Six Grammy nominations, three albums on Blue Note, and collaborations with Bill Frisell, Roy Hargrove, Dianne Reeves and Charles Lloyd speak for themselves. But his reputation rests as much on his own compositions as on his work as a sideman.

On his latest album Ones & Twos (2025), he brings together Marquis Hill, Joel Ross, Elena Pinderhughes, Kendrick Scott and Kassa Overall for a conceptual album about coexistence. Clayton draws his starting point from the DJ world. The album’s A and B sides are constructed to be played simultaneously — a nod to that moment when the DJ lets one track overlap into the next.

At Fasching, he performs in a more stripped-back trio format, with Clayton’s piano backed by a rhythm section of the highest calibre: Joe Sanders on bass and Jeff Ballard behind the kit. Compositions that move through post-bop, gospel and neo-soul, and a relaxed technical brilliance that shines through live.
