Latin Grammy-nominated and Brazilian Music Awards-winning composer and musician Roger José Cury, aka Rogê, brings his acclaimed and infectious samba funk to Fasching for an evening in the life-affirming embrace of Brazilian melancholy.

At the age of 48, Rio de Janeiro-born Rogê is already a veteran of the Música Popular Brasileira scene, with nine albums released since his debut in 1998  – solo, with bands or in collaboration with Arlindo Cruz or Seu Jorge.

Following in the footsteps of brass legends such as Jorge Ben, Milton Nascimento and the aforementioned Seu Jorge, Rogê makes a soulful and funk-influenced samba style with acoustic guitar swing and sandpaper voice.

Last record Curyman was listed on MOJO’s Top 75 Albums of 2023 list and is described as a joyous, high-pitched samba album with a message of reconciliation and resilience because, as the artist himself says:

“So that we don’t give in to sadness, to laziness, to a lack of desire to move on with life. It’s the certainty that a new day will dawn.”

Having honed his skills at the samba club Carioca da Gema in Rio de Janeiro, Rogê possesses a magnetic stage presence that you will experience this evening at Kungsgatan 63.
