Trombonist and arranger Tilde Schweitzer and the award-winning pianist Joel Lyssarides share a stage for the first time in a joint project at Fasching — presented as part of the Baltic Sea Festival 2026, alongside a sixteen-piece string orchestra.
Schweitzer/Lyssarides With Strings grew out of the pair’s shared love of the orchestral jazz tradition: the music of Charlie Chaplin’s films, Astor Piazzolla’s way of weaving strings with tango and improvisation, and the classic “with strings” albums that shaped jazz from the 1950s onward.
The evening features newly written string orchestra arrangements of original music and jazz standards alike — with trombone and piano at the centre, enveloped by a rich and cinematic string landscape where improvisation, melody and orchestral colour converge.
