Nils Albin is one of the most singular voices in the Swedish alternative scene right now. With roots in hip-hop and a background in the Västerås group Fridlyst, his solo project has shaped a sound where indie rock, post-punk and rap converge.
His debut album Pluto (2023, Hoopdiggas Recordings) marked the starting point of that shift. A wide-ranging record where ballads, acoustic indie rock and traces of hip-hop are woven into a boundary-crossing, idiosyncratic whole. Recorded largely in a bedroom in Malmö, it was praised for its DIY aesthetic and emotional nerve, and named one of the year’s best by DN Kultur: “unpredictable, rough-edged but fundamentally warm.”
Live, Nils Albin has quickly established himself as a name to watch. On stages like Mästerbotten, Trädgården and Powerpose FM Festival – sharing bills with Broder John, Boko Yout, Cleo, Erik Lundin and Seinabo Sey – his concerts carry the same intensity as the recordings.
His second album JYCKE drops May 29th, preceded by the singles “Vidrig soluppgång” and “Supersonic”. It marks a clear step forward: a more self-assured sound where guitars, rhythm and poetic everyday realism are tightly interlaced.
Nils Albin writes and delivers with a relaxed precision and an unusually strong emotional presence. Where others lean on technical brilliance, he leans into tone, melancholy and vulnerability – giving the music its own depth and a clear sense of direction.
