Vega Trails

The folk-inspired chamber jazz project Vega Trails, led by double bassist Milo Fitzpatrick (Portico Quartet), returns to Fasching with new music. Since their last appearance here, they have released Sierra Tracks (Gondwana Records, 2025), expanding their atmospheric folk jazz with piano, vibraphone and strings.

The album was recorded partly in Spain, partly in a Warsaw studio. The compositions grow from the mountain foothills outside Madrid, where Fitzpatrick relocated in 2022. The music carries wide-open vistas and a sense of moving through a landscape too vast for words. Jordan Smart (Mammal Hands) plays saxophone and bass clarinet and remains a central voice in the project.

Rooted in modern, resonant jazz and drawing on Nordic nature jazz, Vega Trails build a more cinematic sound with fuller arrangements on Sierra Tracks.
