Nik West has funk in her fingertips. Her voice is powerful and crystal clear, her bass playing funky, effervescent, and intense. Live, she never gives less than a hundred percent.
The influence of Prince runs deep. Funk, rock, pop, and an extrovert energy reflected in everything from her stage outfits to her between-song banter and solos. Prince himself praised her live energy: “Great stage presence /…/ she inspires me in the same way Rosie and Sheila did.” Quincy Jones, Steven Tyler, and Eurythmics’ Dave Stewart have all been won over too. Or as Bootsy Collins put it: “Nik West is definitely bringing back the funk groovement and I love everything about what she stands for!”
This autumn she returns to Fasching with new music. Maybe we’ll get Funkadelic fumes, maybe she’ll play an AC/DC cover, maybe she’ll drop into the splits mid bass solo. September 19th, we’ll find out.
