Muriel Grossmann Quartet

Austrian saxophonist Muriel Grossmann has spent nearly two decades carving out her own spiritual jazz sound, with a discography running from Golden Rule and Reverence to Devotion, released on Jack White’s label Third Man Records.

On her new album Breakthrough (RR Gems, 2025) she continues the long-running partnership with guitarist Radomir Milojkovic, organist Abel Boquera and drummer Uros Stamenkovic. The quartet has played together for over a decade, and it shows: the music has that particular ease that only comes when musicians know each other’s every move. Here post-Coltrane modalism meets electric spiritual jazz, with Boquera’s Hammond B3, Fender Rhodes and Moog adding new colour to Grossmann’s saxophone.

Over the past year the quartet has performed at Jazz à la Villette in Paris, Fondation Maeght and Le Duc des Lombards, among others. DownBeat has described Grossmann’s music as a listening experience bordering on transcendence.
