Magnus Carlson & The Moon Ray Quintet to Fasching 2026 – tickets on sale soon.
Magnus Carlson & The Moon Ray Quintet are back! The story began in 2008, born from the idea of recording a jazz album for EMI/Blue Note. It was the legendary music producer Kjell Andersson’s idea that Magnus should make a jazz record. Magnus Carlson reached out to Goran Kajfeš and assembled a top-tier band featuring Goran on trumpet, Per “Ruskträsk” Johansson on saxophone and flute, Lars Skoglund on drums, Carl Bagge on piano, Peter Forss on bass, and Mattias Ståhl on vibraphone.
Their debut album, consisting mainly of material outside the traditional jazz standards repertoire — ranging from The Zombies to Rodriguez — was widely acclaimed and followed by a tour and a second album. Two years ago, the band reunited for four nights at Fasching. Now they return once again with their new album “Shadows” — their first in 15 years.
“We had a lot of fun and played quite extensively up until 2013, when our other bands and projects completely took over. Over the years, we’ve talked about reviving the group at some point — and now the time has finally come,” said Magnus Carlson ahead of their 2024 shows at Fasching.
“Playing songs from very different places that we all love and have listened to, in a fairly classic jazz style, with the best band and Magnus’ unique voice, felt joyful and natural every second. It’s going to be so much fun to bring this back to life,” says Goran Kajfeš.
