767 Lexington Avenue – the address where Blue Note Records was based during the label’s early golden years – gave this Swedish-Finnish quartet both its name and its direction. Lexingtone plays original compositions inspired by 1960s New York jazz: groovy hard bop with strong melodies and what Suomijazz called “incredibly alive” interplay.
The quartet was formed in 2017 and has since released three albums. The latest – Hard Bop Tango – came out in early 2026 and has been met with strong reviews. Lira hears “the kind of hip-shaking swing we recognise from Art Blakey’s Messengers through Freddie Hubbard and Cannonball Adderley.” Orkesterjournalen calls it “timeless jazz with infectious joy.”
For this evening, Timo Lassy joins as a guest — one of Finland’s most prominent saxophonists, known for his raw, groove-driven playing and a string of releases on We Jazz Records.
