Emil Brandqvist is a composer who dares to put melody front and center, creating atmospheric jazz inspired by both folk and classical music. Together with pianist Tuomas Turunen and bassist Max Thornberg, Brandqvist forms a tight-knit trio known for their fluid and dynamic piano jazz.
Since 2013, the Emil Brandqvist Trio has released a series of albums on Skip Records, establishing themselves as one of Europe’s most exciting jazz trios. Glowing reviews, top rankings on Germany’s jazz charts, TV appearances, and over 50 million streams across digital platforms all attest to their success.
Now they’re coming to Fasching to celebrate the release of their new album Poems for Travelers, which came out in April 2025. The record has already received widespread praise, including from All About Jazz, which writes: “Rich in beautiful melodies, intricate arrangements and an inventive rhythmic foundation.
