Double bassist and composer Anja Gottberg is one of the most exciting emerging names on the Swedish jazz scene right now. On her debut album Teenage Years (Tengtones, 2026), she brings together influences from her upbringing in Dalarna, her years in Amsterdam and New York, and the compositional legacy of Wayne Shorter.
Gottberg originally trained as a cellist before switching to double bass in her twenties – a decision that led her to the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and later to the Manhattan School of Music in New York, where she studied with Buster Williams. Since then, she has established herself on the Dutch jazz scene and received first prizes at both the Getxo Jazz Competition and the Conad Jazz Competition.
Her music brings together folk-like melodies, improvisational freedom and a contemporary quartet sound where the compositions constantly propel the music forward. Joining her at Fasching are pianist Rasmus Sørensen, saxophonist Coleman Rose and drummer Eliza Salem.
