As eclectic as it is inevitable. Mondag brings three musicians rooted in separate traditions – modern jazz, Afro-Cuban percussion and American soul – together.
The trio found each other through a shared interest in hip-hop, film music and improvisation, and with Mondag they channel those influences through airy jazz and breakbeats. A Stockholm-based project moving between skewed beats and Nujabes-tinged jazz, with Kristian Harborg’s saxophone, Thomas de Paula Eby’s percussion and Nils Tull (Hoffmaestro, Melo) on piano and vocals.
Live, the trio expands to a quintet with Hampus Lundgren on bass and Sebastian Ågren on drums. Five musicians with deep roots in groove-based music, and an album and three EPs behind them.
