If you’ve ever heard the euphoric “Enjoy Your Life” in a DJ set – or stumbled upon one of its countless remixes – you’ve already encountered Oby Onyioha’s music. The undeniable boogie hit has lived its own life for decades: rediscovered, reinterpreted and loved by new generations of crate diggers worldwide.

Born in Lagos, Onyioha combined academic brilliance with a career as a pioneering disco queen. Her 1981 debut “I Want To Feel Love” came to define the warm and vibrant disco sound of 1980s Nigeria. A music scene previously dominated by male artists, afrobeat, juju and highlife. Onyioha followed up the successful debut with “Break It” in 1987, before disappearing from the spotlight. Her return to music came much later, when Soundway Records reissued her catalog. Since then, Onyioha’s songs have continued to find new paths. In 2023, Romy interpreted “Enjoy Your Life” on the acclaimed album “Mid Air”, and in 2025 the song gained new life through a remix by producer and DJ Tokimonsta.

Now Oby Onyioha tours with Melbourne-based producer Sai Galaxy, known for collaborations with Steve Monite, Steve Black and Funky Rob, among others. Joining them is Venezuelan bassist Patricia Berlioz, who adds a clear Latin pulse rooted in salsa, cumbia and Afro-Venezuelan percussion. Together, the trio offers a dynamic fusion of Nigerian disco, Afro-house and Latin American rhythms. A link between Lagos 80s disco and modern house pulse.
