Vega Trails

The folk-inspired chamber jazz project Vega Trails, led by double bassist Milo Fitzpatrick (Portico Quartet), returns to Fasching with new music. Since their last visit, they’ve released Sierra Tracks (Gondwana Records, 2025), building on their atmospheric blend of folk and jazz with piano, vibraphone and strings.

Recorded partly in Spain and partly in a studio hall in Warsaw, the album takes its inspiration from the mountain slopes outside Madrid, where Fitzpatrick moved in 2022. The music opens up vast vistas, evoking the feeling of moving through a landscape too immense for words.

Rooted in the rich textures and spaciousness of modern jazz, with a nod to the nature-inspired sounds of Nordic jazz, Vega Trails expands its palette on Sierra Tracks, shaping a more cinematic sound through larger arrangements.
