Per Ekdahl Ensemble

Fasching welcomes one of Sweden’s most versatile and creative drummers and composers to the stage as Per Ekdahl celebrates the release of his new album Brytningstid. Known for his dynamic playing and his ability to move freely between genres, Ekdahl has for many years been a sought-after musician on both the jazz and pop scenes, as well as one of Sweden’s most in-demand arrangers.

On the new album, Per Ekdahl presents music that is as playful as it is harmonious, as focused as it is free-spirited. Traces of influences such as Jan Johansson and Bill Frisell can be heard, while Ekdahl’s uncompromising melodic voice remains entirely his own. Many of the titles are in Swedish, and a clear undercurrent of Swedish music history runs through the repertoire – music that evokes both urban landscapes and birch forests.

It is no secret that Per Ekdahl has reached a new and broader audience through the music he has composed exclusively for Henrik Dorsin’s hugely successful revues at Scalateatern. Now Stockholm audiences have the chance to experience the bandleader in his own right, in grand company, at Sweden’s leading jazz club.
