Ladies Got the Blues returns to Fasching! The collective of musicians and multi-member band Ladies Got the Blues consisting of Sweden’s collective young (female) blues elite performs in various constellations and is a tribute to the female musicians who strongly contributed to the development of the genre throughout history. After a few years absence from Fasching, LGTB returns for a mighty evening with a house band of 7 musicians and a whole bunch of guests. Both real blues classics and some more unusual songs are on the menu!
In 2023, Ladies Got the Blues focuses on reinterpretations of women’s music both throughout history and contemporary artists in blues and related genres. Since 2014, the band has toured around Sweden and Europe with their show. Join us on a journey from 1920s Mississippi to the Swedish scenes of the 21st century, where you’ll hear music by, amongst others:
– Sister Rosetta Tharpe (1915–1973) Guitarist, composer and singer who has inspired artists such as Aretha Franklin, Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley and TinaTurner.
– Memphis Minnie (1897–1973) Composer, guitarist and singer was inducted into the Blues Foundation’s Hall of Fame in 1980. She recorded approximately 200 songs, songs that have since been interpreted and recorded by Jefferson Airplane and Led Zeppelin, among others.
– Big Mama Thornton (1926–1984) Singer and songwriter who was the first to record the song Hound Dog which became a major hit on the Billboard charts in 1953.
