Following the acclaimed albums Horizons and Rising, saxophonist and bandleader Jasmine Myra emerged as a key voice on the British jazz scene – and one of the most exciting artists on Matthew Halsall’s Gondwana Records. This autumn she returns to Fasching with new music.
Jasmine Myra’s music is shimmering, airy and beautifully orchestral. Shaped in equal parts by jazz and the musical languages of Dustin O’Halloran and Hans Zimmer’s Interstellar soundtrack. She builds rich saxophone melodies that wrap softly around strings, harp, vibraphone and flute. Music to sink into and lose yourself in.
On new album Where Light Settles (Gondwana Records, 15 May), Myra has written all the music herself – and steps into the producer’s chair for the first time, with Gondwana founder Matthew Halsall as contributing producer. She describes it as an autumnal record. The music draws on British folk, Welsh landscapes and artists like Fabiano do Nascimento and Arooj Aftab. Made for a dark October evening at Fasching.
