Ida Nielsen is called both Bassida and Ida Funkhouser. She is one with her instrument and has, among other things, been the bass player in The New Power Generation. Yes, she was friends with Prince! Now she comes to Fasching with her own band.
For six years, Ida Nielsen played bass in The New Power Generation when the band backed up the great Prince during concerts and TV shows. In 2013, Prince (as so often) wanted to shake things up a bit in his structures. The New Power Generation got a vacation. Instead, Prince was accompanied by the funk rock trio 3rdeyegirl – among other things during summer concerts such as the one at Music & Arts in Stockholm that year. But Ida Nielsen didn’t get a holiday – she was also the bass player in 3rdeyegirl!
Of course, Ida Nielsen has learned a lot from her years together with Prince. And it can be seen that she has worked with the biggest. In her own project, her base is of course in focus. It is then a mixture of old school funk with a little element of hip-hop, reggae and here and there you can sense some world music spices. Strong melodies – and lots of bass! Or as Ida says herself: “you can’t fake the funk”.
