Harriet Tubman & Georgia Anne Muldrow “Electrical Field of Love”

“The female Jimi Hendrix, the young Marcus Garvey, swinging music like Stevie Wonder” – Erykah Badu’s words about Georgia Anne Muldrow. On Electrical Field of Love, she meets New York trio Harriet Tubman in a groove-marked music somewhere between free-spirited jazz, psych rock, dub, and raw, uncut funk.

Harriet Tubman have been at the forefront of New York’s most forward-thinking jazz circles for nearly 30 years. Brandon Ross, Melvin Gibbs, and JT Lewis carry Grammy credentials and collaborations with artists like Bill Frisell, Henry Threadgill, and Herbie Hancock. With the Tubman trio, they have carved out a sound that echoes Miles’s electric fusion, Funkadelic’s psychedelic weight, and raw rock edge.

Georgia Anne Muldrow grew up in a musical household – her father was Eddie Harris’s guitarist for ten years, her mother sang with Pharoah Sanders. Since her Stones Throw debut in 2006, she has released more than 20 albums and collaborated with Yasin Bey, J Dilla, Madlib, Robert Glasper, and Erykah Badu. Her music has always been at the edge of the fusion of beats, jazz, and soul. “Muldrow crafted similar blends long before Lamar and Washington ever did,” writes The Fader’s Marcus J. Moore.

On the new album Electrical Field of Love, they meet in a collectively improvised expression. The songs grow from noise, groove, and pure intuition – at times like a psychedelic soul band, at times like a hypnotic rush of freedom.
