Chris Minh Doky & The Nomads

Chris Minh Doky has turned his double bass into an expressive, melodic vantage point, echoing both Nordic clarity and American soul. Raised in Denmark but shaped by the New York jazz scene, he became a first-call bassist for musicians including Michael Brecker, Bill Evans, Mike Stern and David Sanborn, and held down rhythm sections alongside Dave Weckl and Jeff “Tain” Watts.

The Grammy-nominated, knighted bassist belongs to a rare group of Europeans who’ve established themselves at the very top of the New York jazz scene.

This fall, he tours with The Nomads, a band where every member is a headliner in their own right: trumpeter Till Brönner, one of Germany’s most celebrated jazz musicians; drummer Manu Katché, known for his collaborations with Peter Gabriel and Sting; and keyboardist Simon Oslender, one of Europe’s most in-demand young musicians in the genre.

Together they build a dynamic soundscape, centered on Doky’s signature tone on a Yamaha Silent Bass. A fine balance of groove, lyricism and emotional depth.
