At 89, saxophone icon Gilbert Holmström shows no signs of slowing down. He made his debut in 1965 with the cult classic Utan Misstankar, and six decades later received a Grammy nomination for the album PEAK (Moserobie, 2024). This autumn he brings his quintet to Fasching with a set of previously unreleased compositions from the 1960s.
The music reflects a broad range of influences — Coltrane, Ornette, Blakey, Ayler, Miles — with Duke Ellington’s first commandment echoing in the background: “It don’t mean a thing if it ain’t got that swing.”
