Scott Kinsey made a name for himself early in fusion circles when he was picked up by Tribal Tech and took on a protégé role under mentor Joe Zawinul. After Zawinul’s death in 2007, Kinsey kept his legacy alive with The Zawinul Legacy Band. His own Scott Kinsey Group is an international outfit: guitarist Nir Felder, who has recorded with Esperanza Spalding and Jack DeJohnette; Brazilian bassist Frederico Heliodoro, who has collaborated with Milton Nascimento and Kurt Rosenwinkel; Hungarian drummer Gergo Borlai; and vocalist Mer Sal, whose voice expands the ensemble’s sonic range.
The program moves between Kinsey’s upcoming album Thought Distortions, selections from his catalog, and chosen compositions from the Weather Report repertoire.
