Two concerts on one ticket! The evening moves from London’s experimental inner circle to Caribbean and South American roots — with improvisation and groove in the bone marrow.
At 20:00, Momoko Gill opens the evening. A self-taught drummer, producer and vocalist — raised in Japan and the US, now based in London — she has shaped her music through collaborations with Alabaster DePlume, Matthew Herbert, Coby Sey and Tirzah. Her debut album Momoko (Strut, 2026) is self-produced, recorded at Total Refreshment Centre and mixed by Matthew Herbert. MOJO awarded it 4/5, UNCUT called it “an album full of quiet storms that grow louder with close listening”. Spiritual jazz, retro-inflected soul and contemporary electronica, bound together by Gill’s layer upon layer of harmonies.
At 23:00, Juan Romero’s Manuella Orkester takes over. After over 30 years as a defining force in Swedish cultural life, percussionist and composer Juan Romero makes his solo debut with Lua Armonia (Supertraditional, 2025). The album is the result of a process where free improvisation meets folk music’s warmth and Caribbean and South American rhythms — with groove as the load-bearing structure. “It’s important that most people — ideally everyone in the room — feels involved when music is being made,” says Romero.
