Jonas Teglund’s world is not easy to categorize. There’s a foundation in rock or indie pop, but the references come from elsewhere: polyphonic early music, jazz, neo-soul, minimalism. In many ways hopelessly anachronistic music, according to himself.
Perhaps it sounds like D’Angelo had started a band with Harry Nilsson and Lou Reed. Or as if Michael Nyman made music with PJ Harvey. Add to this a genuine interest in literature: the lyrics resemble poetry more, where each line requires its reader to unfold.
”Ett nionde sinne” (A Ninth Sense) is Teglund’s first solo album under his own name after some twenty records with various projects. Most recently, he released the duo album En tid att riva sönder with Annika Norlin, nominated for several Grammis awards and listed among DN’s best albums of 2024. Teglund is also behind the instrumental low-key success (and Fasching favorite!) Weils and has produced and written together with I.B. Sundström, Mattias Alkberg and Iiris Viljanen. He has also been the guitarist alongside Hurula for many years.
The album is primarily recorded live with a band at Atlantis studio with Jesper Nordenström, Nisse Törnqvist, Paulina Mellkvist and Reine Fiske. Come and hear the new music live at Fasching on May 31.
