Josefin Runsteen Chamber Music

On International Women’s Day, violinist, percussionist and improviser Josefin Runsteen visits Fasching with a program that moves freely between jazz, contemporary art music and rhythmic improvisation.

Runsteen has become known as one of Sweden’s most versatile musicians – equally at home on the classical stage as in free, experimental contexts. With her background as both violinist and drummer, she moves effortlessly between sonic worlds, and in her music, pulsating rhythms meet melodic fragments and quiet, almost meditative soundscapes.

At Fasching, she comes with some of the country’s most prominent musicians from both the classical and jazz fields. The evening offers a selection of original compositions and free improvisations, where strings take on a new and unexpected role in the language of jazz. At the center is the meeting between structure and spontaneity, between tradition and the present. An evening for the curious listener where jazz, modern classical music and improvisation merge into something entirely unique.

Josefin Runsteen has collaborated with artists and ensembles such as Trondheim Jazz Orchestra, Bill Frisell, Jason Moran, Adrianne Lenker, Feist, Frank Ocean, Fire! Orchestra, Sven Wunder, Loney Dear, Goran Kajfes, Per “Texas” Johansson, Ane Brun, Mariam the Believer, Gothenburg Opera, Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra.
