Multi-instrumentalist Shawn Lee and vocalist Andy Platts bonded over a shared love of ’70s silky pop-soul and artists like Ned Doheny, Hall & Oates, and Steely Dan. The result of their collaboration? Perhaps the slickest West Coast-inspired project this side of 1985: Young Gun Silver Fox.
When West End Coast dropped in 2015, it landed right on time – coinciding with a long-overdue reappraisal of a genre that had long been unfairly dismissed under the label “yacht rock”. Young Gun Silver Fox nailed the soft yet groovy, easygoing yet sophisticated sound that defined the most immaculately produced pop and soul music from the mid ’70s to early ’80s. Their music quickly found an audience, taking them to large venues in the Netherlands, Brazil, and the U.S., and winning over fans like Hans Zimmer, Jeff Lynne, and the Black Pumas.
Their latest album Pleasure, released in May 2025, continues the streak. In a review for West Coast Soul, Lee and Platts were praised as “craftsmen with a deep reverence for the sunlit studio magic of the ’70s … channeling the likes of Steely Dan, Earth, Wind & Fire, and Bobby Caldwell without falling into pastiche.”
In short: groove, gloss, and pop soul perfection. Don’t miss their first-ever show at Fasching!
