Guitarist Pete Roth, rooted in both blues and British jazz, writes music that stumbles forward rather than walking straight. Bassist Mike Pratt has played everything from funk to theatre, but in this trio he takes full space. As co-player, co-creator, deliberately unreliable. Bruford. Yes, that Bruford (!), from King Crimson and Earthworks. He’s always played as if every beat could become something new. And here, he gets to do exactly that.
Jazz, funk, contemporary classical, Dvořák. Nothing is sacred. It’s not retro. It’s not comfortable. It’s just brilliantly unruly.
