One of the most electrifying saxophonists in contemporary jazz. The six-time Grammy-nominated Lakecia Benjamin comes to Fasching this autumn, with the new album We Dream.
Raised and musically trained in New York, she began playing early alongside jazz heavyweights like Clark Terry and Reggie Workman. But her deep jazz roots and restless curiosity also made her a sought-after musician, arranger, and brass section leader in soul, funk, and R&B — with collaborations spanning Stevie Wonder, Alicia Keys, The Roots, and Prince.
In her own albums she has carved out a distinctive space somewhere between jazz tradition, groove, and spiritual energy. Now she arrives with We Dream (June 2026) — her Artwork Records debut, which she describes as a collective statement for difficult times and an attempt to be “a bright light in a dark space.” For the album she has assembled some of the finest names in modern jazz and R&B — an “Avengers” team, in her own words: Terence Blanchard, Hiromi, Bilal, Chief Xian aTunde Adjuah, and Kassa Overall. The record moves between spoken word, groove, and high-intensity improvisation. Live, the music fully comes into its own — with weight, spontaneity, and genuine light-in-the-darkness energy.
