Johan Lindström Septet operates at the outer edges of jazz: where pedal steel guitars meet noir soundtracks, where voodoo grooves swirl into cold war tension, and each tune feels like a movie you can’t quite place.
Their debut Music for Empty Halls (2018) introduced a band of handpicked masters from the Swedish jazz scene. The follow-up On the Asylum won a Swedish Grammy for Best Jazz Album, a hallucinatory, shape-shifting record that’s been described as everything from Eric Dolphy in slow motion to Twin Peaks played by a spy band.
Now, a third album is on the way, set for release in connection with Umeå Jazz Festival 2025.
Expect a live experience where darkness glows, textures breathe and each player is free to roam the sonic unknown.
