Two acts, two compelling approaches to rhythm, movement and freedom in jazz. In this double bill, Norwegian trio Gard Nilssen Acoustic Unity shares the stage with Swedish composer and saxophonist Lisen Rylander Löve – each offering their own vision of what free jazz can be.
Gard Nilssen Acoustic Unity
Celebrating their 10th anniversary in 2025, Gard Nilssen Acoustic Unity is one of Europe’s most vital working trios. With six critically acclaimed albums and over 250 shows worldwide, the trio—featuring Nilssen on drums, André Roligheten on saxophone, and Petter Eldh on bass—has been praised for its explosive chemistry, quick-turn interplay, and post-Ornette swing. Stereogum calls them “one of the best trios in Europe”, and their live energy is nothing short of transformative.
Lisen Rylande Löve OCEANS
Lisen Rylander Löve, releasing her new album In Fields Of Time in September 2025, merges tenor sax, voice, live electronics and field recordings into immersive, evolving compositions. This time she is joined by bassist Donovan von Martens and drummer Martin Öhman, creating a trio dynamic that fuses acoustic instruments with sonic abstraction. Her work balances the raw and the poetic, the improvised and the composed – a sound world described by All About Jazz as “thoughtfully-crafted” and “convincing.”
