Miles Davis 100 år — Milestones & Kind of Blue

Miles Davis would have turned 100 this year. We mark it with an evening where the sextet led by trumpeter Samuel Olsson plays through two of his most significant albums: Milestones and Kind of Blue.

The band is assembled in the same format Miles himself used on the records: trumpet, alto sax, tenor sax, piano, bass and drums.

Milestones, released on Columbia in 1958, was the only recording by the full “Miles Davis Sextet”: John Coltrane, Cannonball Adderley, Red Garland, Paul Chambers and Philly Joe Jones. The title track is considered one of the first modal jazz compositions, while the rest of the album leans more towards blues-inflected hard bop.

Kind of Blue, released the following year, remains the best-selling jazz album of all time and the record where Miles fully defined modal jazz.
