Impra 20 år!

The association IMPRA turns 20 this November, marked with a celebration at Fasching featuring a unique, specially assembled IMPRA Big Band led by conductor and composer Erika Hammarberg. Since its founding, IMPRA has been a driving force for gender equality and diversity in Swedish jazz and improvised music. The evening brings together music, history and future in a concert marking two decades of change.

The evening’s lineup brings together some of Sweden’s most prominent jazz musicians from across the country: saxophonists Amanda Sedgwick, Malin Wättring, Lisen Rylander Löve, Ludvig Broman and Elin Forkelid; trumpeters Elin Andersson, Emma Granstam, Bosse Strandberg and Nils Jansson; trombonists Agnes Darelid, Lisa Bodelius, Karin Hammar and Klas Eriksson; pianist Brita Virves; bassist Ingrid Schyborger; and drummer Anna Lund.

The band performs both brand new and older music by women composers. Guest artists are vocalists Lina Nyberg and Gunilla Törnfeldt, who also founded IMPRA back in 2006. Welcome to a concert where the big band’s many voices get room to breathe, in line with IMPRA’s vision of a vibrant and inclusive jazz and improvised music scene.
The evening also includes the presentation of the honorary IMPRA GULD award, given each year to a promoter, individual, association or institution whose work furthers IMPRA’s vision of gender equality in Swedish jazz.

The evening is presented with support from the Royal Swedish Academy of Music.
