The Bad Plus Farewell tour

The Bad Plus are calling it quits. After 18 albums and 26 years together, one of the most influential jazz groups of the 21st century is closing the book. But first, they’re coming to Fasching for one last show on Kungsgatan 63.

“One of the most important groups in modern jazz.” – The New York Times

The Bad Plus started as a classic piano trio – bass, drums and piano – with an approach that was anything but traditional. Since their formation in 2000, the group has drawn inspiration far beyond jazz’s genre walls, mixing their own compositions with readings of Aphex Twin, Black Sabbath and Nirvana alongside Ornette Coleman. Their album These Are the Vistas (2003) was named one of the 50 Most Important Recordings of the Decade by NPR’s All Songs Considered.

Today they play as a piano-less quartet with saxophone and guitar – a shift that has produced a rawer and more flexible sound. Their most recent album, Complex Emotions (2024), shows they’re still as creative, curious and inventive as they were two decades ago. “The Bad Plus, on this most recent recorded evidence, can still claim to be one of the hippest, baddest instrumental bands operating on the planet today,” wrote Jazzwise in its review.

Don’t miss the chance to send off one of modern jazz’s great bands at Fasching this September.
