Those Who Throw Objects at the Crocodiles Will Be Asked to Retrieve Them is the hefty title of Bruno Pernadas’ breakthrough album from 2016. Critics loved it – so did the fans. On Rate Your Music it still ranks among the 15 best albums from the music year 2016. Five years later he released Private Reasons, named one of the best albums of the year by SPIN Magazine. Now, another five years on, he’s back with Unlikely, Maybe.
The record has been in heavy rotation on Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide FM and launched with three sold-out concerts in Lisbon in March 2026. Sonically, Pernadas continues to move through crystal-clear pop melodies, neo-psychedelia and airy jazz arrangements. There are also detours into warped UK jazz beats, German 80s synths and Brazilian samba. Unlikely, Maybe is nine songs with lyrics in English and Portuguese, over lush arrangements, vintage synths and shimmering guitars. A pick-and-mix bag for fans of idiosyncratic indie and jazzy psychedelia.
Outside his solo career, he has produced Japanese psychedelic rock band Kikagaku Moyo’s album Massana Temples and written the music for Portugal’s first Netflix original series, Glória. Bruno Pernadas has momentum.
