Ben Jacobs – better known as Crackazat – has spent over a decade making music in the studio and behind the DJ booth. Now he’s finally stepping on stage with a full live band.
Raised in Bristol and now based in Sweden, Jacobs has since his breakthrough in the mid-2010s built a distinctive blend of house and jazz. SUN (Freerange Records, May 2026) is his fourth and most expansive record to date: a rich, warm sound moving between jazz, hip-hop, soul and funk. Influences from 1990s Bristol are audible, as are Jamiroquai, Herbie Hancock’s Headhunters and British funk. Deep basslines, intricate piano lines and collaborations with artists including Eva Lazarus, Lyric Jones and Cap1talA.
“The jazz funk album I always wanted to make,” as Crackazat himself puts it.
