Mike Stern

Mike Stern’s résumé is almost hard to process. After getting his start in Blood, Sweat & Tears in the mid-seventies, he joined Billy Cobham’s fusion group, then spent several years in Miles Davis’ band in the early eighties, before going on — via collaborations with Jaco Pastorius and Michael Brecker — to release his debut as a bandleader.

DownBeat has ranked him among the world’s greatest jazz guitarists of all time. Guitar Player Magazine gave him their Certified Legend Award. It’s easy to understand why. By combining the legato phrasing of jazz saxophone greats like John Coltrane, Sonny Rollins and Joe Henderson with elements from rock and blues — distortion, delay pedals and string bending — Stern has forged his own musical language in the space between rock and jazz.

Stern has visited Fasching many times before, and we are just as proud to welcome him back every time. This time he is joined by one of fusion’s most sought-after drummers, Dennis Chambers, Chris Minh Doky on bass, Bob Franceschini on saxophone and Leni Stern on electric guitar, n’goni and vocals.
