John Coltrane would have turned 100 in 2026. Stockholm Jazz Orchestra celebrates with an evening where some of jazz history’s most iconic compositions are given new life: “Naima”, “Giant Steps”, “Afro-Blue”, “My Favorite Things”, “In a Sentimental Mood”, “Central Park West” and many more – partly in new, fresh arrangements.
Coltrane is one of jazz’s absolute greatest figures. He died in 1967, only 40 years old, but during his lifetime shaped the direction of jazz in a way few others have. He broke through in Miles Davis’ group and appeared on Kind of Blue, the world’s best-selling jazz album. The following two years brought his breakthrough as a bandleader with Giant Steps and My Favorite Things, where the soprano saxophone took center stage. Later in his career, he devoted himself increasingly to freer, deeply spiritual jazz.
Stockholm Jazz Orchestra, which itself turned 40 in 2024, takes on this legacy with a host of magnificent soloists. A concert with energy, swing and ecstasy.
