Sylvie Courvoisier moves between chamber music and New York avant-jazz with one foot in the composed, the other in the unpredictable. Born in Switzerland and based in Brooklyn for over two decades, she was awarded both the Swiss Grand Prix and the American Academy of Arts and Letters Music Award in 2025.
She plays concert halls and clubs alike, from Stravinsky interpretations to freeform trio work with Drew Gress and Kenny Wollesen. Her sound draws as much from prepared piano as it does from the logic of a playground.
NPR put it best: “Some pianists approach the instrument like it’s a cathedral. Sylvie Courvoisier treats it like a jungle gym.”
