Nana Rashid’s music exists somewhere between Nordic stillness and soulful intensity. The Danish-Zanzibari-Omani singer made her album debut with Music for Betty (April Records) in 2023 and quickly made an impression well beyond Scandinavia: Jazzwise awarded the record four stars, calling it a “hugely impressive debut,” while Danish newspaper Politiken described her as “an absolutely terrific vocalist who really stands out on the Danish jazz scene.”
Rashid’s music circles around belonging and self-acceptance, love and fragility. She uses jazz — with its improvisational freedom — as a language for the things that resist easy expression. Since her debut she has sold out Ronnie Scott’s in London, performed at Jazz in Marciac in France, Taichung Jazz Festival in Taiwan, and delivered a memorable show at Fasching in 2024.
Now she is entering a new chapter. New Ways to Pray, produced by Larry Klein (Joni Mitchell, Herbie Hancock, Melody Gardot) and recorded in Los Angeles in early 2026, moves toward a larger, more spiritual sound. At Fasching, we get to hear where she’s headed.
