Modem

Modem is a Helsinki-based synth-pop duo consisting of Tytti Roto and Ville Valavuo. After paying their dues in the Finnish punk and indie underground, they decided to take on electronic pop and set their sights on the synthetic soundscapes of the 1980s. The result is a project that oozes gothic glamour, new wave gloss and neon-shimmering melancholy.
Their debut album Megalomania wrapped lyrics about inequality, self-help culture and European colonialism in danceable synth-pop. In October 2025, they released their second album Interface. Rooted in the noir-hazed soundtracks of the 80s and the emotional tension of early Depeche Mode, Interface is both a love letter to the past and a sharp commentary on the present.
Following the DIY ethos of the punk scene, the band has been self-sufficient in recording, mixing and artwork, and released everything through their own label Modem Age Records. In recent years, Modem has toured actively at Finnish clubs and festivals such as Flow Festival, Sideways and Ruisrock, as well as in Central Europe and Scandinavia. Now they’re finally coming to Stockholm.
This concert is part of the series Finlands Sak I Vår where we, together with the Finnish Institute, highlight five of the most exciting Finnish names at the outer edges of jazz, psychedelic funk and synthetic pop.
