Jay-Jay Johansson

Once again, Fasching celebrates Valentine’s Day with Trollhättan dandy Jay-Jay Johanson. This year is extra special: in 2026 we celebrate 30 years since the legendary debut album Whiskey was released.

The Bristol-inspired trip-hop album, recorded in the Stockholm archipelago, became an instant cult classic. Songs like “So Tell the Girls That I Am Back in Town” and “Believe in Us” established Jay-Jay Johansson’s sound: jazzy crooner vocals over trip-hop beats with film noir arrangements and a melancholic elegance that made him one of the most unique voices of the 90s.

30 years and 15 albums later, Jay-Jay Johanson is still as active as ever. He has toured China, Ukraine, Brazil and Mexico, played to sold-out venues in London and Paris, and collaborated with Cocteau Twins and The Knife. At Fasching we’ll hear music from Whiskey, along with a selection from the rest of his long career.
