Hyllning till Roland Keijser

An evening of light for Roland Keijser, a pioneer who played at the intersection of jazz, folk music and global sound. Now he is honoured by some of Sweden’s most vital musical voices. After the concert, a conversation follows with Mats Gustafsson, Roger Bergner and others, moderated by Anders Cangemark (Caprice Music).

In collaboration with Mats Gustafsson, Caprice Music is releasing Öppet Tre: Roland Keijser Kvartett, previously unreleased recordings from 1968–69. A musical time capsule featuring Keijser alongside Bosse Skoglund, Staffan Sjöholm and Torsten Eckerman. Roland Keijser was an explorer. With bands like Gunder Hägg/Blå Tåget and Arbete & Fritid, he moved freely between Swedish folk traditions, free jazz and rhythms from the Balkans, Africa and Asia. Nothing was foreign to him.

“Roland Keijser chose his own parallel path, where Swedish folk music was a key element, but never without musical infusions from the Balkans, Africa or Asia. Everything was possible. You can hear it in the music.” – Mats Gustafsson

“An astounding lost document of creative radical Jazz action… This is a holy grail diamond.” – Thurston Moore

Tonight we honour his open mind and his musical courage.
