A double dose of experimental minimalism from Stockholm and Chicago.
Ghosted is a trio bringing together New Zealand–born experimentalist Oren Ambarchi with Fire! members Johan Berthling and Andreas Werliin. Their finely detailed sound explores the fertile space between 1970s ECM jazz, electronic minimalism and kraut, with each track building deep, almost ethereal grooves.
Ambarchi is one of the most recognized figures in the experimental music scene, with releases on Touch, PAN and his own Black Truffle label. Berthling and Werliin are well known to Fasching audiences from groups such as Fire!, Wildbirds & Peacedrums and Tonbruket. Since their 2022 debut on Drag City, Ghosted has been praised by Mojo and Uncut, and featured on The Guardian’s year-end list.
The second half of the evening belongs to the Whitney Johnson-Lia Kohl-Macie Stewart Trio from Chicago. Three voices, three string instruments (viola, cello, violin) and an arsenal of tape machines create an organic, intertwined sound that oscillates between free improvisation and carefully produced compositions. “Macie Stewart has had a hand in making some of the best tracks of the past five years transcendent”, writes Pitchfork.
Two trios, two sides of modern improvised music, and an essential evening for anyone who likes their jazz experimental, beautiful and fractured.
