Brian Dickinson is a central figure in Canadian jazz: a pianist, composer and arranger whose melodic clarity, harmonic depth and personal touch have made him a trusted collaborator for the likes of Kenny Wheeler, Lee Konitz and George Mraz. For this special night at Fasching, he presents new music written specifically for this ensemble: piano, saxophone, bass and string quartet.
On stage, he’s joined by two of Sweden’s most distinctive improvisers. Hans Backenroth is a cornerstone of Swedish jazz, a bassist with decades of collaborations across genres and continents. Magnus Dölerud brings a saxophone voice marked by rhythmic sensitivity, structural awareness and tonal honesty.
Together with a string quartet of equally individual voices, Dickinson’s music finds new shape. Composition and improvisation sharing space with precision and trust.
