Samla Mammas Manna Revisited

When Coste Apetrea brings together his new quintet under the name Samla Mammas Manna Revisited, it’s not a tribute act. It’s a living revival of one of Sweden’s most singular musical legacies.

Drawing from three of the group’s most influential albums – Måltid, Klossa Knapitatet and Snorungarnas Symfoni – the set revisits a repertoire where complexity meets absurdity, where beauty lives alongside irreverence. Samla’s music was never easy to define: part progressive rock, part free improvisation, part Swedish folk turned inside out. Often compared to Frank Zappa, but unmistakably their own.

Now, that spirit returns reimagined by musicians who both honour the past and bring their own voices into the mix. The signature elements are still there: the guitars, the flute, the sudden shifts, the surreal humour. But this isn’t nostalgia. This is now.
